Project Rangatahi is a kaupapa that aims to be the bridge between rangatahi and opportunities, that will help them to succeed and be capable leaders for our marae, hapū, iwi, our county and potentially the world. We also aim to not only guide our future rangatahi but to also change the conditions that may limit them at the moment. In our current circumstances, we acknowledge the power we hold. In our privilege of having our reo, our hononga to our papakainga, and also the power in our own mātauranga and our connections. Our goal is to redistribute that power, thereby empowering others to be the best they can for themselves and their whānau.
Our kaupapa utilises a structure supported by four key pou (pillars):
The first pou, our primary purpose, is Rangatahi.
Through a range of methods, we provide opportunities to our rangatahi participants. These opportunities include scholarships, internships, work experience, mentorship, meet and greets, and public speaking opportunities. In 2021 we also began commissioning rangatahi for creative works such as art, photography, and written pieces to be shared on our website and social media platforms as well as providing financial or other support for rangatahi featured in Project Rangatahi written or video profiles to support their aspirations.
Another facet of our rangatahi support is the development of a database which will include a series of videos, articles, resources, and tools for rangatahi.
The second pou which leads our work at Project Rangatahi is Community.
Rangatahi do not exist in vacuums. In fact, we understand the importance of whānau and communities within the lives of rangatahi and the daily impact they have on our rangatahi. So in serving rangatahi, we think it's only right to extend our support to those who support them on the ground, ia rā, ia rā (everyday).
To communities and community groups we offer a range of services from free consultation on kaupapa rangatahi to partnered events and research to unlock our local potential and to grow our rangatahi and whānau.
Our third pou is Pakihi.
Using commercial ventures in which, among other services, we support clients to grow their business capacity, we provide rangatahi with the opportunity to engage directly with kaupapa and clients to grow our clients rangatahi capacity and to expose rangatahi to potentially untapped networks, employment, and financial support. Furthermore, while supporting participating rangatahi, profits generated by commercial venture return directly to Project Rangatahi's Rangatahi and Community support ventures.
Through Pakihi, we also prioratise the empowerment of rangatahi and communities towards self-sustainability and growth. As a result, pakihi is a key tool used by our team at Project Rangatahi to support rangatahi and communities .
Finally, our fourth pou is Partnership which serves as a pou tāhuhu and remains in the centre of our entire kaupapa.
Through partnership, we understand rangatahi as our key 'clients' as well as our key advisors who guide us and work with us. Through partnership, we also see communities as key stakeholders, and kaitautoko and kaitiaki of rangatahi. Furthermore, we value the role partnership plays between us as Project Rangatahi and our rangatahi with our commercial and private clients and contributors who enable our mahi while supporting the aspirations of our young people.
